Are you Ready?

March 22, 2011

With the extremely difficult situation in Japan it behooves us to look within ourselves in case we were to be hit with our own natural disaster.

Japan happens to be a country that resides in one of the world's most earthquake prone zones and as you would expect, their codes for earthquake proofing a structure are some of the best in the world. You should be pleased to know that Canadian codes are catching up with Vancouver taking the Canadian lead in earthquake protection.

Typically building codes are updated at least every 5 years, buyers looking into the purchase of newer buildings, such as those marketed by MAC Marketing Solutions can feel more confident that these buildings are set to a higher standard than those built even a decade ago. But ensuring that you are prepared in case of emergency is always something we should consider. This includes preparation such as water, food, flashlight and other supplies as well as reading the Emergency Guide and planning meeting points with family and loved ones. It is also a good idea to look into earthquake insurance. You should first check that you and your strata (if appliacable) have it. If you do, make sure you understand your deductible as it is often based on a percentage lost. That means if your deductible is 5% of what you lost and your damage is $200,000 then your deductible will cost you $10,000.
