Bustling Burnaby and Its Town Centres
August 23, 2017
The bustling municipality of Burnaby has many neighbourhoods and four distinct town centres – Metrotown, Edmonds, Brentwood and Lougheed – all undergoing exciting redevelopments. The region is growing in popularity for its livability, walkability, central location and proximity to transportation such as SkyTrain and highway access whether your destination is downtown Vancouver, Coquitlam or south of the border. It is a highly sought after housing market with its many beautiful parks and trails, recreation, entertainment, and notable school and shopping districts.
EXPERIENCE METROTOWN
Home to B.C.’s largest mall, Metropolis at Metrotown, there are grand plans to redevelop the shopping centre. The City has labelled the region as “Burnaby’s Downtown”, its street and transit network has been redesigned to incorporate an outdoor art gallery, Beresford Art Walk, and the SkyTrain is undergoing upgrades to improve rider experience. There are lots of amenities such as Central Park and SilverCity theatres, and new ones to come including a Performance and Event Centre.
EXPLORE EDMONDS
Surrounded by an abundance of green space, Edmonds is home to Park Byrne Creek, Deer Lake Park and Highland Park Line Trail which runs through to Central Park. This Burnaby hub has easy access to transit and is home to many outdoor shopping centres such as Highgate Village. A revitalization of the area is underway with new living, retail and commerce, and Edmond’s spectacular 95,000 sq. ft. Community Centre and neighbouring park.
BUILDING BRENTWOOD
The city centre at Brentwood and the 10-block radius around Willingdon and Lougheed is under major transformation and construction. The new Brentwood Town Centre is slated for completion in late 2018 for phase one, and will offer over 250 stores, a modern luxury retail zone, and amazing dining and entertainment. A new 13-acre park is also planned for the area. It is a desirable location for schools and post-secondary institutions with proximity to the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Simon Fraser University.
DISCOVER LOUGHEED
The exciting Lougheed Town Centre is undergoing an ambitious redevelopment for both residential and commercial space. There will be master planned communities and mixed-use towers, along with an outdoor pedestrian spine, a galleria of retail shops, services and eateries. The new neighbourhood will offer an abundance of public spaces for parks, walking and cycling paths and incorporate an urban plaza to host celebrations and events.
BURNABY A PLACE TO CALL HOME
Adding to the vibrant community are recent multi-family high-rises including Kings Crossing in Edmonds, Lumina and Solo District in Brentwood, Sussex and Station Square in Metrotown, and the City of Lougheed and Hensley in the Lougheed/Burquitlam neighbourhood. In the next few months Burnaby is expected to see 4,000 new units released to market. A great selection of homes will be available with floor plans ranging from one, two, and three-bedrooms. Some new townhouses are expected to offer up to four-bedrooms, a great option for growing families or residents requiring additional space for home office or a guest suite. Many sub-penthouses or penthouses are finally being released with plenty of spectacular city and mountain views to take in.
As you are searching for a new home in Burnaby, drive around the different neighbourhoods, stop to enjoy the shops and sites, and visit the presentation centres. Your first-hand experience and interaction will allow you to compare the communities and get a sense of the people and amenities that best cater to your lifestyle.
