August 21, 2018 Get to Know the Tri-Cities Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam surge with vibrancy
It’s rare to find a stretch of cities located so conveniently on nature’s doorstep. Coquitlam and neighbouring cities Port Moody and Port Coquitlam, which make up the Tri-Cities, is rapidly growing. The 2017 census reported a population growth of 9.8 per cent—three percentage points higher than the Metro Vancouver average. Surging with vibrancy in recent years, new developments in the Tri-Cities offer newcomers some things they may not be able to find in Vancouver and the surrounding Greater Vancouver area.
The Evergreen Line, a Welcome Addition
The Tri-Cities have never been closer with the arrival of the long-awaited Evergreen Line, which launched in December 2016. This new line connects Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam to downtown Vancouver, making both commuting in for work and traveling out for an adventure in the suburbs a breeze.
Other options for commuting include the West Coast Express, which offers consistent commuting options Monday to Friday, most often utilized by people working downtown and living in Coquitlam.
Nature at Your Doorstep
One of the most spectacular things that the Tri-Cities have to offer is the abundant nature that surrounds them. Right at your doorstep, you’ll find access to endless options for outdoor recreation and open green spaces. With over 80 municipal parks and natural areas in Coquitlam alone totalling 2,200 acres, it’s safe to say the outdoors will be your new playground. Places to check out include Town Centre Park (named the greatest public space in Canada by the Canadian Institute of Planners in 2017), and Mundy Park’s 400-acre coastal rainforest with 16 kilometers of trails.
In the winter, be sure to check out Lafarge Lake, which when it’s lit up during the holiday season is the only free light display available for the public in the Lower Mainland—why not have that in your own backyard?
Its Own Buzz
Beyond luscious green spaces and outdoor activities, Coquitlam gives its residents easy access to neighbourhood amenities including the Coquitlam Centre Mall, wonderful and reputable schools, as well as arts and culture hubs like the Evergreen Cultural Centre and Place des Arts. In nearby Port Moody, there’s a great sense of place and calmness about the community which offers a variety of independent and boutique shops and inviting family restaurants. Brewers Row continues to attract people from near and far, turning Port Moody into its own craft brewery destination with three blocks of great options.

Several new developments are coming to market before the end of the year including four multi-family projects in Coquitlam. One already released project is Dwell24 by Epix Developments and the Circadian Group. This project boasts 24 spacious move-in ready townhomes that give you easy access to all that the Tri-Cities have to offer, right on the border of Coquitlam and Port Moody.
There’s lots of life happening in the Tri-Cities right now, and with higher purchasing power than in Vancouver proper, now might be the time to scope out the best of what this region has to offer.
