I’m a fan of things modern. In fact, I have a past blog written about why we don’t see more “modern” or “contemporary” homes compared to the re-imagined “Craftsman” that has become the Vancouver Special 2.0. I like finding people or groups that are able to re-imagine a concept while maintaining the utility. The simple analog watch from days gone by has become a waterproof, digital heart-rate monitor with gps tracking capabilities that can also play your favorite music (e.g. MOTOActive.)
I am equally a fan of those that can take something that is ubiquitous in one sector and repurpose it in way that completely transforms its utility. One of those transformed items is the simple shipping container. Stacked as tall as some mid-sized buildings, these empty containers, too costly to ship back to their original location empty, have found new life as emergency housing in disaster relief areas through to beautiful contemporary homes.
Recently, Mission Group, one of our clients has started to venture into the world of converting these containers to homes are at least temporary housing options. They are not a contemporary home per say but a great option for industries that need simple, clean and fast housing for staff regardless of the ease or difficulty of access. A great solution to the challenge many industries such as mining and logging are faced with.
