This Isn’t Your Father’s Prefab Home

April 5, 2011

Monad, an intimate, boutique Kits condominium development is redefining exclusive living in Vancouver’s ever popular Kitsilano / Point Grey real estate neighbourhood. In a neighbourhood dominated by craftsman inspired architecture, Monad sits in striking contrast with its contemporary lines, concrete and expansive glass façade. But there is more to Monad than just modern curb appeal. Award winning architect Arthur Lang of Lang Wilson Practice in Architecture, took the design of Monad to a new level and created Vancouver’s first green multi-story modular housing project.

The Monad project is based on the principles Oliver Lang learned during the construction of the ROAR_One condo building, Mr. Langs last project and winner of the prestigious Govenor Generals Award. ROAR_One is consistently held up as Vancouver’s “poster-child” for sustainable urban development due to its focus on passive energy efficiency, compact design and livability.

Built on a standard 33 x 110 foot lot, Monad, lives up to and surpasses its predecessors reputation and dispels all preconceived notions on prefabricated housing. These 4 generously proportioned 800 – 2100 square foot homes are designed to be highly functional, sustainable, and importantly, of a very high quality and design. In addition, besides a highly efficient and economical prefabrication process that is good for the environment and reduces waste and natural resources, the locally built prefabricated upper floors of Monad also present a unique advantage in the market place allowing for an 8 months construction time – quite possibly the shortest construction cycle yet. The introduction of this new construction process presents great opportunities for the development of often challenging small urban infill projects.
