Countdown to Move-in Day

June 1, 2017

It’s the final countdown to the finish line of getting your orientation and house keys to your new home.

We speak with new homeowners all the time, and during the weeks between orientation and move-in day we can hear and feel the excitement from them. It’s the final countdown to the finish line of getting your house keys and stepping into a new home to call your own.

The purpose of the orientation is to introduce homeowners to their new home and community, with tutorials of how to use the appliances, best way to maintain the home, and review of important safety features. This is generally a 60-minute session where a representative of the project development and construction team will walk you through your new home.

The guided meeting enables you to inspect the millwork and custom design features and note any deficiencies with the representative. Smaller deficiencies are typically repaired prior to move-in while larger deficiencies may take longer post move-in. An official Notice of Completion, which outlines a specific Completion Date for your new home will be issued typically 10 to 30 days prior to move-in. Which means you have a confirmed date for when you will get the keys! This date is also referred to as the Possession Date, which always falls one business day after the Completion Date. You can move into your home any time after the Possession Date and you can book a preferred move in date well in advance with the property management company for the development.

You will be provided a Welcome Package from the customer care team in advance of your Completion Date which will include the appropriate contact details for the property management company. This will allow you to make all necessary arrangements of moving in, such as booking an elevator, or securing a moving truck location as needed.

There are many online checklists which can help run through everything you will need to do for your move-in. We also recommend reviewing your building bylaws ahead of time to ensure you are adhering to the guidelines and being a good neighbour.

When you get the keys to your new home it will be an exciting and powerful day, be sure to enjoy it. Once you are settled in, plan to have a fun housewarming party and showoff your beautiful new home to all your friends and family!
